With a little sadness but plenty of optimism, here is a report from today’s trip to the Gradac River with a friend from my Telegram channel. @nenevreme.
We set out hoping for trophy trout and grayling. Nature itself seemed inviting: clear water, the whisper of the canyon and a light breeze. The fish, however, apparently decided to play a joke on us. Here is how it went:
- During the day we had 5 uncertain takes on streamers
- But not one take resulted in a solid hook-up
- It was as if the fish said: “I’m busy today—come back another time.”
- We left empty-handed, but not discouraged.
Yes, we were unlucky. But this was not a defeat—it was an invitation to return.
The Last Chance of the Season
A reminder for everyone: September 30 is the final date for fishing the Gradac River this season. After that, the river closes until March 1..
If you have dreamed of trying fly fishing in this corner of Serbia, do not wait. This is your chance to:
- Fish streamers and dry flies
- Explore the river’s secluded channels
- Feel how the water moves and learn how the current behaves
- Take photos that will bring summer back until spring
