Fly Fishing with Children in Serbia: A Family Adventure

Fishing is not only a way to relax; it is also a wonderful opportunity to spend time with children outdoors, away from screens and city noise. Fly fishing in Serbia is becoming increasingly popular with families looking for an active and educational experience, especially for children aged seven and older.

Where do we fish?

We organise family fishing trips in some of Serbia’s most scenic places:

  • The Gradac River near Valjevo — crystal-clear water that is ideal for trout and grayling. Safe access points and a gentle current make it an excellent choice for children.
  • The Drina River — one of Serbia’s largest and most beautiful rivers, where we target chub using both classic fly-fishing methods and Euro nymphing.
  • Other small rivers and streams — by arrangement, depending on the season and fish activity.

What do we do?

  • We teach the basics of fly fishing: how to hold the rod, make a cast and present the fly.
  • We explain the fish we catch and why we release them.
  • We take a short hike and often have lunch right on the riverbank, with sandwiches, fresh fruit and lemonade.
  • We equip children with lightweight waders or boots, depending on the weather, and provide a safe area for fishing.

Important information

  • Age: seven years and older. Younger children may join us, but they may not always be able to take an active part in the fishing.
  • A parent must be present — both for safety and to share this unique experience with the child.
  • We provide all the necessary equipment. You only need clothing suitable for the weather and a good mood.

Why is it so memorable?

This trip is about much more than catching fish. It gives a child the chance to:

  • Learn patience and concentration
  • Develop their first skills in caring for and understanding nature
  • Spend a day with their parents on a real adventure
