Spring is now in full swing on Serbia’s rivers. The water is clean and clear, nature is waking up and the trout are becoming noticeably more active. In recent days, fish have responded well to almost every major fly-fishing method.
Trout are taking dry flies, nymphs and small streamers. During the warmer hours of the day, rising fish can be seen especially in quiet areas and along current seams. Nymphs are consistently effective in deeper water, while small streamers work well through faster runs.
The Djetinja River has also opened for the season. It is one of western Serbia’s beautiful mountain rivers, where transparent water, limestone cliffs and forests turning green create excellent conditions for spring fishing.
The sun is already warm during the day, sometimes even hot. After fishing, it is always good to light the coals on the bank and cook something simple. This time we grilled fish bought from a shop—a perfect way to finish a day on the river.
The season is only beginning, with many good days of fishing still ahead.
Spring trout fishing in Serbia
Spring has already arrived on the rivers of Serbia. The water is clear and transparent, nature is waking up, and trout are becoming much more active. During the last few days fish have been responding well to almost all classic fly fishing techniques.
Trout are taking dry flies, nymphs and small streamers. During the warmest part of the day you can often see rising fish, especially in slower sections and along current seams. In deeper runs nymphs work very consistently, while small streamers can be effective in faster water.
The Đetinja River is also open now — one of the beautiful mountain rivers of western Serbia. Clear water, limestone cliffs and forests slowly turning green make it especially scenic in spring.
During the day it is already quite warm in the sun, sometimes even hot. After fishing it is always nice to make a small fire on the river bank and cook something simple. This time we grilled fish (bought in the store) over charcoal — a perfect way to finish a day on the river.
The season has just begun and many great fishing days are still ahead.
